Reporting to the Head of Investment Product Tx Germany, the successful candidate's responsibilities will include some or all of the following:
Providing tax support to the various MSREI funds' German inbound (MSREF Funds) and outbound (KAG Funds) real estate investments throughout the life cycle.
Review of tax assumptions in underwriting models and tax due diligence assistance.
Coordinating tax advice with external advisors, the global Tax team, and the business units on the cross-border structuring of investment products and their investments, using the advice to make sound business judgements and to ensure tax-efficiency and alignment with the Tax Department’s risk management framework.
Review of documentation.
Coordinating with other support disciplines (Legal, Controllers) to ensure that tax provisions, structures, policies, guidelines, etc. are understood and implemented appropriately and that other support functions are involved as necessary.
Continually monitoring and reviewing the tax structures of existing products and investments to ensure that the structures remain robust (e.g., evaluating impact of legislative changes, monitoring assumptions made during the structuring process).
Providing day-to-day tax support with respect to a wide variety of one-off and recurring questions and requests from other support disciplines (Legal, Controllers), product development, asset management and sales teams etc.
Monitoring and coordinating tax sign-off, documentation of tax positions of new investment structures and investment products.
Providing guidance on firm franchise and other risk management issues.
Providing support and guidance during tax challenges or audits.
Skills Required
German qualified Steuerberater with German international transactional real estate and investment management tax experience gained in industry, a law firm of Big 4 accounting firm or equivalent is required.
Fluent German and English (both written and spoken).
Experience in the international taxation of real estate.
Experienced in international asset management/funds taxation or real estate taxation.
A broad knowledge of international U.S. tax concepts (CFC, PFIC, Check-the-Box, UBTI, ECI) would be helpful.
